This Division is responsible for the protection of life and property, preservation of the peace, repression of crime, apprehension of criminal suspects, prevention of delinquency, traffic direction and control, accident investigations and traffic law enforcement, and the delivery of miscellaneous services to the community.
The Jail Division is classified under the Minimum Standards for Jails in Ohio as a Full Service, Adult Facility. The facility has twenty-six (26) beds and can house misdemeanor prisoners for up to one (1) year and 5th degree felony prisoners for up to 11/2 years. Pre-sentenced and sentenced Solon prisoners, as well as prisoners from other agencies, make up the daily population in the facility. By housing prisoners for other agencies, the facility generates revenue for the City of Solon.
The Detective Bureau is responsible for follow-up investigations of all major felony and misdemeanor offenses that occur in the City of Solon. It also works closely with the Solon school system and takes an active part in juvenile crime prevention.
This department is responsible for processing all felony and misdemeanor violations that occur in Solon. Waiverable offenses, most commonly traffic violations and parking citations, are paid at the Violations Bureau located in the Solon Police Department, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Non-waiverable cases are heard at Bedford Municipal Court.
The Community Relations unit was created within the Police Department to not only maintain a good public image, but also to attain closer contact with the community to better ascertain its changing needs, thus enabling us to respond to those needs and better serve the community.
Community Relations is a department-wide function and all officers participate in Community Relations functions. Community Relations Officers regularly speak at area schools, churches, civic organizations, homeowner's associations and many other groups. They speak on many police related topics which may be of current interest such as home or business burglary prevention, child abuse, bicycle/pedestrian safety and drug abuse to name a few. Not only do these speaking engagements enable us to disseminate important information to the public, it enables the public to directly voice their concerns to us.

The Auxiliary Police Unit was established within the Police Department to be called to duty in periods of emergency or whenever needed to protect the health and safety of the residents. The Auxiliary Unit works in conjunction with the regular Police Department, but cannot be used in place of the regular Police Department.
The Animal Control Department responds to all domestic and wild life complaints in the City of Solon. Found animals are brought to the Animal Warden's Kennel, located at the Police Department and held until ownership can be established. Owners are charged an impoundment fee of $20 to release their pets from the Animal Warden's Kennel at 33000 Solon Road.
Provides information to support the Police Department and assist the general public.
