Building Department

The Building Department is involved in all activities associated with residential and commercial building construction. Staff members also assist the public by answering building related questions and offering advice regarding compliance with building codes. The Building Department is state certified to inspect all types of construction.

Building Permits are required for all building construction, including accessory structures such as: decks, pools, sheds, porches, enclosures, roofing, siding, etc. Permits are obtained through Solon's Building Department. Forms can also be downloaded from our website and filled out to submit to the Building Department.

Applicants for accessory-type structures need to provide three copies of the construction drawings, consisting of a site plan showing where the structure will be situated on the property and the distance from all property lines. Plans must also show how the structure will be built (materials used, etc.).
