A. Under Study and/or Design

  1. Pettibone Road Infrastructure Improvement Project - Engineering Department has received the final confirmation from the State concerning the funding and is continuing reviewing the final plans and specifications. Authorization to bid this project will be requested at the special Public Works meeting on May 5, 2008.
  2. Chagrin North Tributary Study - Status unchanged. This project is on hold pending the completion of the Sherbrook Drive culvert replacement. The consultant will re-evaluate the model at that time.
  3. Bainbridge Road Reconstruction - Status unchanged. The Engineering Department met with the County on September 18th to discuss drive slopes and project schedule. The City has completed acquisition of private property for the right-of-way from SOM to City Hall. Due to funding, the construction is tentatively scheduled to start in 2010.
  4. Creekside Detention Basin - The wetlands affirmation is complete. The Engineering Department has not received the revised construction plans at this time. The permanent easement document for the basin has been signed by Forest City and will be presented at the May Public Works meeting.
  5. St. Mary's Streambank Stabilization - Status unchanged. The Engineering Department performed a site visit during the week of May 21st and noted continued extensive erosion similar to that observed at the US 422 Pond Outfalls. We are considering options at this time.
  6. Pepperwood Drainage Improvements - The Engineering Department has received the new alignment and detention basin layout. A residents meeting will be scheduled soon. Engineering has hired a consultant to delineate the wetlands that are present at the proposed detention basin site. This field work will be scheduled for the first or second week of May.
  7. Sherbrook Aerial Sanitary Sewer Repair - Contract documents are complete and bids will be opened on Friday, May 9th. A pre-bid meeting was held on Friday, May 2nd.
  8. Senior Housing Sanitary Sewer Study - Status unchanged. Design of the pump station and force main is on-going.
  9. North Huntington Basin Expansion - The Engineering Department has arranged a meeting between the Coral Company, Brown and Caldwell, the City of Solon, and the Army Corps to discuss permitting issues. This meeting was held on April 25, 2008 and seemed positive from the Corps perspective. The EPA is the next agency that needs to provide input.
  10. Cochran/Carter Left Turn Modifications - Status unchanged. The Engineering Department has requested the Cuyahoga County Engineers Office to review our previous Ohio Public Works Committee Issue 2 Program submittal in hopes that they can recommend some modifications to improve our chance to get funding with the next round of submittals.
  11. Portz/Aurora Signal Modification - Status unchanged. Work at this intersection is currently on hold pending the results of the review of signal modification changes at the Liberty/Aurora Road intersection. This intersection is proposed to be studied as part of the new traffic study being performed for the City by the Wells Company. Traffic count activities are underway throughout the City.
  12. Flashing Signals at Inwood (High School) and on Solon Boulevard - Status unchanged. Design work for this project is nearly complete pending the possible addition of a couple more locations.
  13. 2008 Annual Contracts - Contract document preparation for the annual contracts for 2008 is on-going. The Engineering Department will be adding a concrete slab leveling contract to the list of annual projects.

  1. Traffic Signal Modification for the Bainbridge Road/SOM Center Intersection - Construction documents have been prepared and bids were received on April 29th. The Safety and Public Properties Committee will review the bids at a special meeting on May 5, 2008.
  2. Traffic Master Plan - Status unchanged. Consultants have begun work on updating the City's traffic master plan by studying intersections in the City. A list of the intersections to be studied has been sent out to various departments for review and comment. Representatives for the consultant are performing field work at this time.

B. Construction

  1. Aurora East Infrastructure Improvement Project - Status unchanged. The City and the contractor have finalized the bid quantities. The Engineering Department will be meeting with the contractor soon to discuss the closeout documents.
  2. Thornbury Phase 8 - Plans have been received and are being reviewed by the Engineering Department at this time.
  3. The Allotment Infrastructure Improvement Project, Phase I - Status unchanged. This project is complete and will be closed out soon. 
  4. The Allotment Infrastructure Improvement Project, Phase IIA - This project is substantially complete. The Service Department is cutting down the sanitary and storm sewer risers and marking the curbs and sidewalks next week. Restoration will follow.
  5. Metro-Parks Lift Station Replacement - Status unchanged. The Water Reclamation  Department has been working with the pump manufacturer and the contractor to determine exactly why Pump No. 1 is failing. This has been a tedious process and hopefully a solution will be discovered soon.
  6. 2007 Annual Contracts - Status unchanged. The catch basin and manhole repair contracts are complete and will be closed out soon.
  7. Cochran Road Resurfacing - Additional testing of the asphalt is complete and a report has been submitted to the Engineering Department for review. 
  8. Bunker Hill Storm Sewer - The Contractor has been out to the site to determine areas that need additional restoration work. This project will be closed out soon.
  9. 422 Pond Outfall Repair Study - A construction cost estimate has been prepared to replace 2 outfalls in the west pond. This work was approved by Council on April 21st and work will begin soon. Final restoration and cleanup work on the east pond will continue as the weather permits. 
  10. Windy Willow Storm Sewer - The Contractor has been out to the site to determine areas that need additional restoration work. This project will be closed out soon.
  11. Miscellaneous Concrete Cul-de-sac Replacement - Status unchanged. Work on this project will commence again in the spring when the weather allows.
  12. Emergency Roadway Repair - Status unchanged. Contracts for the Emergency Roadway Repair program have been signed.
  13. Franklin Street Resurfacing - Status unchanged. This project is a joint venture between Geauga and Cuyahoga County at no cost to Solon. Franklin Street will be resurfaced in Solon from Chagrin River Road to the County Line. The project is being bid by Geauga County in the spring, 2008. Traffic will be maintained during construction.
  14. Cannon Road Bridge Replacement - Status unchanged. The bridge on Cannon Road just east of Richmond Road will be replaced early spring of 2009. This project was designed by Cuyahoga County and will be at no cost to the City. Detours will be posted.
  15. Aurora Road Tree Removal - The tree removal for Phase I of the Pettibone Road Reconstruction Project complete. This project will be closed out soon.
  16. Aurora Rd Resurfacing - ODOT will be resurfacing Aurora Road from Solon Road to Richmond Road next year. The City has been requested to contribute 10% of the construction cost. This issue will be presented to the Public Works Committee at the June meeting.

SAFETY & PUBLIC PROPERTIES COMMITTEE

A. Under Study and/or Design

  1. Center of Town Project - The decision has been made to leave the Veterans Memorial at the southwest corner of Bainbridge and SOM Center Road. The decision has been made to replace the gazebo with a new one. The contract documents for the landscaping project around Fire Station #2 have been prepared and bids were received on April 29th. Internal meetings regarding the design of the Memorial Park have been on-going. The Safety and Public Properties Committee will review the bids at a special meeting on May 5, 2008.
  2. Briar Hill Lake Dam - A petition for a Special Assessment for the Briar Hill property owners has been drafted and will be presented to the Public Works Committee at the May meeting.
  3. Tennis Court Rehabilitation - Status unchanged. Contracts for this project have been prepared. Construction has been postponed until the weather will not be a critical factor.
  4. Service Department Fuel Station - The electrical Contractor has mobilized to the site and electrical equipment has been ordered. The tanks and associated equipment will be delivered soon. Final grades for the fuel loading pad have been established and the concrete will be poured the week of May 5th.
  5. Arthur Road Pool Boiler - Council has awarded the contract to replace the boilers at the Arthur Road Pool to Miller Plumbing. The demolition portion of this work has begun.
  6. Asbestos Removal - Contract documents for the asbestos removal project at City owned houses at 6619 and 6629 SOM Center Road have been prepared and bids were received on April 29th. The Safety and Public Properties Committee will review the bids at a special meeting on May 5, 2008.

B. Construction

  1. Fire Station #2 Construction - Interior work is continuing. Final grading of the site is on-going. The concrete driveway to SOM Center Road was poured on April 24, 2008.
  2. Tennis Court Pathway Lighting - Status unchanged. Documents for close out have been sent to the Contractor.
