Cuyahoga County Loan Programs

LOAN PROGRAM AVAILABLE TO QUALIFIED SENIOR CITIZENS

This deferred loan program for home repairs and basic home improvements is available to Solon residents who meet the following criteria:

• At least 62 years of age

• Income limit of$ 33,600 for 1 person or $ 38,400 for 2 people

• Property taxes must be current

Loan amounts are based on the value of the home, secured by a lien. The maximum loan amount is $24,999. The deferred loans are repaid when the home is sold or the homeowner moves.

Eligible repairs include:

• Correction of city code violations

• Corrections to conditions that endanger health or safety

• Repairs to kitchens, bathrooms, porches, roofs.

Work will be completed by registered contractors selected by the homeowner. For information, call the Cuyahoga County Department of  Development at 216-344-2571.

CUYAHOGA COUNTY LOAN AND GRANT PROGRAMS FOR RESIDENTS

DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS

The Diversity Opportunity Loan Program - Provides a 5 year forgivable loan of up to $ 10,000 to home buyers whose race is underrepresented in their new community.  Contact Solon Dept. of Senior Services at (440) 349-6363 for applicable income limits.

Downpayment Assistance Program – For first time homebuyers.  Maximum $ 7,500 zero percent deferred loan that need not be repaid until sale or transfer of the property.  Contact Solon Dept. of Senior Services at (440) 349-6363 for applicable income limits.

Enhanced Downpayment Assistance Program – For low income working families. Maximum $10,000 deferred loan that need not be repaid until the home sells or the title transfers. Contact Solon Dept. of Senior Services at (440) 349-6363 for applicable income limits.

Workforce Housing Loan – For police, firefighters, and teachers.  Maximum $ 7,500 ten year forgivable loan.   Contact Solon Dept. of Senior Services at (440) 349-6363 for applicable income limits. Environmental Renovation Assistance Loan – Down payment assistance up to $ 10,000 ten year forgivable loan for homes that meet “green standards” (environmentally friendly) as established by the County.  

HOME IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS

Housing Loan Program for Senior Citizens – For homeowners at least 62 years of age.  Maximum $ 35,000 deferred loans to correct local code violations and to make repairs that endanger health and safety.  Loans payable when home is sold or the homeowner moves.  Contact Solon Dept. of Senior Services at (440) 349-6363 for applicable income limits.

Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program – Low interest loans up to $24,999 for repairs and basic home improvements for one to four-family houses.  The owner must occupy one of the units.  Contact Solon Dept. of Senior Services at (440) 349-6363 for applicable income limits.

Home Weatherization Program - Homeowners and renters who participate in the HEAP, PIP, TANF or SSI programs or meet County income requirements are eligible for FREE attic and wall insulation, furnace tune-up, windows and doors weather-stripping, and hot water tank insulation.  Contact Solon Dept. of Senior Services at (440) 349-6363 for applicable income limits.

Lead Safe Programs – Grants and low interest loans for homeowners and renters with children under 6 years old living in the home for repairs to provide a lead safe environment.  Includes free lead risk assessment by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health.  Remediation work will be done by state licensed lead abatement contractors and inspected by the County Board of Health.  Contact Solon Dept. of Senior Services at (440) 349-6363 for applicable income limits.  

PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE

Cuyahoga County has initiated a pilot PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE & RELIEF program to offer savings on the purchase of prescriptions.  Qualified applicants will receive 3 months supply of prescriptions for $ 10.00 per prescription per month. 

Eligible persons are those with no other prescription drug coverage, who do not participate in Medicaid, and who have a yearly gross income of less than $ 16,000 for a single person and less than $ 25,000 per married couple.

If you make too much money for the Prescription Assistance & Relief Program, you may qualify for the MedPerks Program.  The MedPerks Program offers discounts on prescriptions, office visits, vision and hearing care, dental check-ups and some medical procedures at a cost of $ 9.95 a month.  For information call 1-877-463-1905.

Also available through Cuyahoga County is the FREE DIABETIC & MEDICAL SUPPLIES PROGRAM, which provides supplies such as test strips, glucose meters, meter batteries, lancing devices, lancets and control solution.  For information call 1-877-463-1905.
