Success Story

Here is a success story that may inspire someone to leave an abusive relationship.

A woman from a ten-year marriage remembers when the abuse started... It started a few months after they got married and escalated after the death of her mother. She felt alone and isolated from her family and friends. She was unable to mourn the passing of her mother, which put her into a deep depression.

Her health became worse over the years from all the physical and mental abuse, including suffering a miscarriage. A few months later, she became pregnant again and throughout those nine months he never touched her and she delivered a beautiful baby girl.

When she brought their daughter home the abuse was unbelievable horrible, all those months of anger had built up within him and he was ready to explode with such rage. It became a daily chore to survive. He manipulated her by using their daughter as a pawn to get what he wanted from her. He continued to threaten her safety and the violence on her became life threatening. When she was able to escape from the house during a fit of rage, she would take her daughter to a safe place and protect her from witnessing any more abuse. After that first night away from him, she decided that she and her daughter could not live like this anymore and was making plans to leave.

She finally utilized the help of the local Police and had him arrested. She still lived in fear because he harassed her by phone as well as having other family members contact her in his behalf. He even went to the extreme to come to the house in the middle of the night.

Throughout the next year she finalized on her divorce and he was charged for his disruptive behavior.

Today she has proudly taken over her life as well as mended the broken bridges of her family and lives a happy and healthy life. She continues to help her daughter understand what has happened and tells her story to others in hopes it may help just one person.

Please send in your success story or other personal writings to help others make that first step to leave.
