2022 Economic Development Updates
We welcomed 39 new businesses to Solon in 2022 and the City celebrated many ribbon cuttings with the Solon Chamber of Commerce.
Job Fair 2023 Save the Date
The City and the Solon Chamber of Commerce are hosting a Job Fair on May 4th at the Solon Community Center from 12:00 - 5:00pm. Over 60 local businesses are expected to participate in the event. We are hoping many connections will be made between employers and job applicants. Businesses are encouraged to register now to reserve a table or become an event sponsor.
Public transit
The RTA and SHARE Mobility are partnering to offer last-mile transportation from the Southgate Transit Center in Maple Heights, which serves four RTA bus lines, directly to Solon job sites. The service is free for all Solon employers now through March. Scan the QR code below or contact ashaker@solonohio.org to learn more.
Hawthorne Estates
Hawthorne Estates will be a 50 and over residential community. Construction on the new housing development that will include approximately 102 single family homes is projected to start in 2023. A proposal was approved by Solon voters in November 2020 which re-zoned the former Hawthorne golf course to a R2A area zoning for homes for those over 50 years old. The developers have been working with the Cleveland Metroparks to keep a large amount of the greenspace on the 85-acre property.
Solon Community Living Housing Project
Solon Community Living, an organization whose mission is to provide a quality, community-accessible, sustainable housing option for adults with developmental disabilities, received final building plan approval from the City of Solon. Construction will begin in spring 2023 on a unique pocket neighborhood along Clearwater Court off Portz Parkway, just steps away from the Solon Community Recreation Center.
The plans include a neighborhood of six homes with ADA-compliant private suites, a community clubhouse with a teaching kitchen, a library/sensory area, gathering spaces and an outdoor terrace. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2024. Find out more information here.
