Open Space Acquisition Policy

The acquisition and preservation of open space has become an issue of increasing importance to the City of Solon as it has developed and matured. The City recognizes that an effective open space program provides many benefits to the community including a general enhancement of the quality of life, an increase in biodiversity, reductions in population growth, enhancement of community aesthetic appeal, and an extension of the active and passive recreational opportunities that are available to City residents.

However, as the effective preservation of open space typically requires the expenditure of limited public funds, the City further recognizes that it must pursue a coordinated and consistent policy over time if it is to maximize the effectiveness of its open space preservation efforts.

Therefore, the City of Solon hereby establishes the following policies to prioritize and guide individual open space acquisition decisions so as to assist the City in achieving its larger land use goals.
